My Bangkok trip =)
Lotuses float down the huge river that flows beside Bangkok, they are the only plants that thrive in an absolutely dirty environment yet are totally clean themselves.
My second visit to the Grand Palace, this time I actually knew what I was looking at... (the first time I saw it was during my JC trip and all of us were playing so hard that I dont believe any of us knew what we were looking at exactly)
One of the any temples in Thailand, iirc there are 35 thousand temples in Thailand. The country is like 95% into Buddhism!
My most beloved form of travel must be the tuktuks. They weave in and out of lanes like nobody's business and can get you to places in double quick time =)
We arrived kinda late in Bangkok... and we had planned to go to Chattuchak, the famous weekend market that my colleague recommended to me. We took the Bangkok Skytrain (BTS) all the way to the Chattuchak market. Its very fast and very good for longer distance travel. What took the BTS 30mins to reach would probably have taken much longer on the roads with the kind of traffic Bangkok is notorious for. Chattuchak is the BIGGEST open air market you will ever see. If you can actually see the whole market in one view that is. Cuz when you're in it, you cant see the ends of the market. They sell everything you can imagine and everything else that you cant. I love that place man =3
On our second day there, we took a half day tour which was a boat ride up the river, Chao Phraya. It was totally brown because of the heavy rains and floods that were happening up north in the country. After the tour, we got to choose where they drop us off at. We chose MBK. hahaha. MBK has changed quite a lot since I last visited. It got cleaned up and now looks more like Heeren than Far East Plaza. That also meant that the good buys that I found last time are now nowhere to be found anymore =( Third day in Bangkok, we went for another half day tour, this time to the Grand Palace. Oh boy, its grand alright. We spent the entire morning staring at the walls, totally in awe of the work that was done on them. It was sweltingly hot though so when we finally got back on the tourbus, we were all quite relieved. This time we dropped off at Siam Paragon, a place that doesnt really suit us regular people haha. Upmarket brands and skyhigh pricetags meant that I couldnt buy anything there. We went around all the Siam buildings, Siam Discovery Center, Siam Square, Siam Center and finally Tokyu. There we went on a shopping spree and I bought tons =) Last day in Bangkok, I was quite sad. It was an early flight, so we couldnt do anything else but to walk up and down the shops in the airport. I was quite sorry to leave the place that had really really fantastic food and the funky tuktuks.
