Goodbye Gilmore!

Pilot episode of Gilmore Girls. 10/5/2000.

Its 153 episodes later and finally, on 5/15/2007, we say goodbye to the Gilmores who accompanied us through not only our college days but also our university days and some more.

I love the Gilmores. They talk fast, smart, witty, funny and so quirky... They are the oddballs but oh-so-human and full of stories and things that everyone can relate to at some point in their life. They are truly so lovable. I cant believe that there wont be any more to come after their 7th and final season. The very last episode is so aptly entitled "Bon voyage" too. Rory and Lorelai will continue on with their lives in our own imagination, no longer to be told to us by the brilliant story tellers who have been giving us the past 7 seasons of the Gilmores.

I just realised how so many good shows have come to an end in the times of our own ends (Of course this applies only the those who are in their 20s). Just when our very own lives experience transition from being a student to a worker in the real world, we have to deal with long running shows like FRIENDS ending their 10 year long run on the silver screens that we glue our faces to when the sitcom is screening.

Joining the list of shows that ended their oh-so-many-years-of-running run is CHARMED. Ran for 8 years, accompanying us all the way through school right up to the very start of our budding career days. I was no fan of Charmed, for this genre of TV shows didnt exactly gel very well with me but I know for a fact that many many MANY of my peers love this show dearly.

A slightly older sitcom that I love dearly is Mad About You. I remember loving the theme song at the start of the show. Its called "Final Frontier". This show too ran for a very long time... from 92 - 99. Wow. Thats about the time I graduated from sec sch.

And when I talk about Mad About You, immediately I think about Murphy Brown. Oh boy did I love that show to bits!!! I observed during that time that Helen Hunt (lead actress from Mad About You) would never win an Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy as long as Candice Bergen was around. True enough, as soon as Candice was out of the picture, Helen won the Emmy at least. Murphy Brown was another long lasting show that ran from 88-98. A decade. Just like FRIENDS.

Another ending we all went through was the end of the puzzle board. WHEEL! OF! FORTUNE!!!... yes, yes, yes! I remember feeling rather sorry to see the old manually-controlled puzzle board being replaced by a new electronic one. Kinda like the invasion of aliens into our quaint old cozy lives aint it. Well, the good ol' puzzle board had its long run from 1981 (even before I was born!) all the way till 1997. That's a good 16 year-long run and all it took was a leak of answers in Arizona to have them make the switch.
So, all good things do come to an end. It is time to say goodbye but these shows live forever.
